Dr Roopa Gawarikar


Dr Gawarikar is a dual-qualified Radiation Oncologist and Specialist Pain Medicine Physician. She is currently a Staff Specialist in Pain Medicine at The Canberra Hospital and Calvary Hospital and VMO at Icon Cancer Centre, Canberra. Her special interest is to deliver comprehensive cancer pain management utilising palliative radiation therapy, interventional procedures, pharmacotherapy including ketamine infusions, psychoeducational self-pain management programs, and physical reconditioning.

Dr Gawarikar completed her Radiation Oncology training in Newcastle and Canberra and was awarded her Radiation Oncology Fellowship (FRANZCR) in 2013. After working as a locum Radiation Oncologist consultant from 2013–2015, she did further sub-specialty training in pain medicine at The Canberra Hospital and was awarded Fellowship in Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) in 2018. Dr Gawarikar has several publications as the first author and has presented at many national and international conferences. She was an Australian National University Research Fellow in 2012 and collaborated with researchers from Queen’s University, London, on her project involving immunohistochemical markers to predict local recurrence risk in breast cancer. She is currently leading a Cochrane review and involved in several other projects.
